OUR PREPARATORY SCHOOL | GRADES 1 - 6

Our Junior Preparatory School | Grades 1 - 3

At Reddam House we nurture individuality and self-starters who develop into confident,
disciplined, creative, caring and insightful students. We follow the CAPS curriculum, in conjunction with IEB outlines, and include Drama, Art, Physical Education and Creative Movement in our Life Skills offering. Coding and Robotics, and a choice between Bible Education, Moral Studies and Jewish Studies are offered in addition to the standard CAPS curriculum in the Junior Preparatory. IXhosa and Afrikaans are taught as first additional languages preparing the way for language choices in the senior preparatory.

All subjects are presented with an emphasis on problem solving and lateral thinking. Children are encouraged to reflect, have opinions and express themselves with respect, tolerance and open mindedness. We are passionate about developing a thirst for knowledge and learning in all of our students using the three pillars of academics, culture and sport to foster well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to school life and give back to the community at large. We encourage the reflection on self and community through restorative justice practices in learning how to engage and behave.

There are two classes in each grade with a maximum of 25 students. Most children turn 7 in Grade 1 and therefore are turning 10 by the time they start in the Senior Preparatory phase. The Grade 1 to 3 school day begins at 08:00 and ends at 14:00. A rich and varied sport and cultural programme is offered in the afternoons and an adventure zone service with meals is available.
