"Welcoming a young person with a fresh, open, and energetic drive for life to Reddam House spurs us on to partner in a journey which is routed in excellence. We look forward to discovering the 'unique' in your child!"
Shirley Oosthuizen, Headmistress
At Reddam House we nurture individuality and self-starters who develop into confident, disciplined students. We follow the CAPS curriculum, in conjunction with IEB outlines, and include Drama, Art, Physical Education and Creative Movement in our Life Skills offering. Computers and Coding, Class Recorder lessons and a choice between Bible Education, Moral Studies and Jewish Studies are offered in addition to the standard CAPS curriculum in the Junior Preparatory. Afrikaans is taught as the first additional language and Xhosa is our second additional language.
All subjects are presented with an emphasis on problem solving and lateral thinking. Children are encouraged to reflect, have opinions and express themselves with respect, tolerance and open mindedness. We are passionate about developing a thirst for knowledge and learning in all of our students using the three pillars of academics, culture and sport to foster well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to school life and give back to the community at large.
There are two classes in each grade with a maximum of 25 students. Most children turn 7 in Grade 1 and therefore are turning 10 by the time they start in the Senior Preparatory phase. The Grade 1 to 3 school day begins at 08:10 and ends at 13:35. A rich and varied sport and cultural programme is offered in the afternoons and an aftercare service with meals and homework club is also available.
